<image:title>Blog - Sleep ‘Teaching’ Methods for Infants and Young Children - What does sleep training (or learning, coaching, etc.) mean here at Rest Grow Thrive?</image:title>
<image:caption>The work I do with families here at Rest Grow Thrive is focused on combining all the components of a healthy sleep foundation with the learned skill of independently falling and returning to sleep. This is to help children get the consolidated nights of rest they need and age appropriate naps during the day. It may mean weaning night feeds, but often it doesn’t, as it is dependent on the baby’s age, nutritional needs, and parent goals.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Sleep ‘Teaching’ Methods for Infants and Young Children - What method is best?</image:title>
<image:caption>The best method is the one that the family can feel most comfortable and confident committing to. Children are different from one another, parenting styles are different from one another, and a family’s sleep goals are different from one another. That being said, when working with families, I find we most often use either a moderate or high involvement approach to sleep training. A tip: If you are on the fence about how involved you’d like to be in the sleep training process, I recommend starting with a higher involved approach and removing your involvement if need be. It is much easier on your little one if you go from more to less involved as opposed to switching from less involved to more.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Managing Sleep while Traveling Multiple Time Zones with Kids! - I’m going to separate this blog by direction, as that tends to have a factor in how we tackle sleep. I’ll also include some ideas for traveling shorter time zone changes and general travel tips at the end. There is a saying about time zone travel that goes something like: ‘West is best, East is a beast.’</image:title>
<image:caption>Traveling multiple time zones East is typically more difficult than traveling west. This is because when we travel East, the travel day exhausts us, yet the time change means our body’s circadian rhythm isn’t ready for night sleep when it is nighttime in our location. Westward travel, however, has us staying up later than our bodies are used to, which is easier to do.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - How to Use a Toddler Clock Successfully - Make a Plan</image:title>
<image:caption>First, it’s important to decide how you will handle when your child tests the boundaries around their clock (because they will). How will you handle when your toddler/preschooler comes out of the room before the light turns on. How will you handle it if your child is calling for you before the light turns on? It’s important to think about this beforehand, so that you can be prepared for the ways your child may test these boundaries and discuss with them what your response will be.</image:caption>
</image:image>
<image:image>
<image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6038fa44d519504b93216f07/1625075615216-8FNFEL2EBPZOGU07MK2M/Michael+%26+Laura+Photography+Little+Z+Family++85+copy.jpg</image:loc>
<image:title>Blog - How to Use a Toddler Clock Successfully - We also have to look at the sleep picture holistically, in it’s entirety. A toddler clock isn’t going to help if your child is going to bed too late (hello cortisol kick and overtiredness!) or their environment isn’t conducive to sleep (DARK, cool, and quiet), or they have no consistent wind-down routine/connection with you before bed. So, before just adding a toddler clock to your toolbelt, make sure you have everything in place to help your child sleep better.</image:title>
<image:caption>Overall, it’s important to remain patient and stay consistent when making changes to your child’s sleep. If your toddler or older child has been having early morning wakeups, they aren’t going to go away overnight because you’ve started to use an ok-to-wake clock. Celebrate the small successes (your child didn’t return to sleep BUT they stayed in their room - that’s a win!) along the way and continue to hold your boundaries. Eventually, with everything in place, it WILL click and your child will become a superstar sleeper.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Enjoying Summer WITHOUT Sacrificing Sleep - Sunday, June 20 officially marked the first day of summer! School has ended in many places and summer camps are starting. Perhaps you are starting to look forward to some summer trips as COVID-regulations continue to loosen.</image:title>
<image:caption>However, summer also has a tendency to reak havoc upon our little one’s sleep if we aren’t conscientious of it. <image:title>Blog - 6 Tips for Navigating Separation Anxiety & Sleep with your Baby or Toddler - Why do we see separation anxiety occur?</image:title>
<image:caption>Your baby realizes now that even though they can’t something, it still exists. This is called object permanence and it’s another developmental milestone for your child. When do we usually see separation anxiety in our babies? We can usually see object permanence understood in our babies between 4-7 months, but most baby’s bouts of separation anxiety occur between 8-10 months and sometime around 18 months.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Four-Month Sleep Regression (why it should be called a PROgression!) - Ok ok, don’t panic! This is normal. Developmentally, what’s happening is actually really cool! I like to think of this as a PRO-gression instead of a regression, although it may not feel like that to you, as your sleep is suffering!</image:title>
<image:caption>But, your little one is growing, their sleep patterns are maturing, and there’s a lot of developments taking place – maybe you notice them becoming much more aware of their surroundings, maybe you are starting to see the first signs of rolling, and some kiddos even start showing their first teeth at this time.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - The Four-Month Sleep Regression (why it should be called a PROgression!) - The first portion of night sleep includes more of the non-REM deep sleep, and your baby descends back into the deep sleep stages quickly as they cycle through sleep. This is why, for most parents, even though their baby is struggling with night-wakings, they aren’t usually seeing those wakings as much at the beginning of the night.</image:title>
<image:caption>As the night continues, and we start reaching the earlier morning hours, your baby’s sleep includes longer and more intense periods of REM sleep (light sleep) and shorter periods of non-REM sleep. It is during these lighter hours of sleep, and specifically the transitions from REM to non-REM, that we see most of the micro-awakenings turning into full on awakenings, most typically due to the sleep associations in place.</image:caption>

<image:title>Home - Hi, I’m Autumn and I love sleep!</image:title>
<image:caption>I’m also a mom of a wonderful toddler boy and two awesome little girls that share a room, and everyone sleeps GREAT (most of the time). It wasn’t always that way. I remember the exhaustion with my firstborn - experiencing another night in a row seeing every hour on the clock. She took short nap after short nap (36-minutes to be exact). After loads of research and making my own plan, we’d cracked the code and now my evenings are peaceful, my nights are rested, and my mornings are quiet. My girls are happy and growing, we are connected as a family, and we are thriving together. And now - As a Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant, I help families regain those same peaceful evenings, rested nights, and quiet mornings. Whatever your struggle - bedtime battles, early morning wakings, broken night sleep after broken night sleep, or maybe you are already trying to sleep train and just need some extra guidance - I’ve got you. Get to know me more here or book a complimentary introductory call so we can chat and decide how to achieve your goals together.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Hi, I’m Autumn! I’m a certified infant & child sleep consultant, mom of three, and I want to help your family feel rested!</image:title>
<image:caption>I’ve been obsessed with the puzzle that is pediatric sleep ever since my first daughter was born in 2016. Some of the most memorable parenthood conversations I had pre-baby were about sleep. “Sleep now because you won’t again for a long time!” was the phrase I felt like I kept hearing. So, before she was born, instead of thinking of birth plans and the delivery, I spent my time reading all about baby sleep and thought I was prepared. But then, that 4-month sleep progression hit us HARD. The things that were once working weren’t getting anyone sleep anymore - I was utterly exhausted, unhappy, and we had to do something. I went on a mission to figure it out. I dove deeper into the science behind baby sleep and made a plan to help my little girl sleep better. I used all my research and put my own sleep plan in place - and it worked beautifully. My daughter started sleeping better, I was getting rest again, and everyone was much happier. My relationship with both my husband and my little girl improved tremendously.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - When my second daughter was born, I was determined to do things differently.</image:title>
<image:caption>I used even more of the research that I’d done between babies and worked on establishing healthy sleep habits right from the beginning. Of course, things weren’t and aren’t always perfect, and we can’t expect them to be, but getting better sleep with baby 2 made the transition to having another child so much easier. I know that so many parents struggle with their child’s sleep. It’s often discussed everywhere parents are near each other: the playground, play-dates, daycares, etc. I always felt the urge to tell other parents that “It doesn’t have to be this way. You don’t have to feel exhausted all the time.” I began helping friends along the way and it was so rewarding to be part of their journey towards healthy sleep for the whole family. I then turned to the well-renowned Family Sleep Institute to become a Certified Infant & Child Sleep Consultant. And now, I feel so lucky to help families become well-rested again and to be able to say - “I love what I do!”</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Pediatric sleep can be a puzzle with many moving parts.</image:title>
<image:caption>Putting that puzzle together can be confusing, especially when you are already exhausted. That’s where I come in. I’m here to work with you as a team in order to put a sleep plan together that is right for your family. I believe there is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to sleep or parenting. If you choose to work with me, I promise write you a customized sleep plan that works and to be both your coach and cheerleader, encouraging & supporting you along the way. Parenting is hard! But, you can be rested through it all. If you are ready to feel rested again, check out my packages to get more information.</image:caption>
